INDUCTEE 2023: Abby (Ostruzka) Rice
Abby (Ostruzka) Rice. She also played Varsity Softball and was part of the first Women’s Ice Hockey Team at GHS. On the field hockey field, Rice was a two time All State and All County player in addition to a Mid-Atlantic All-American. She also was both an MVP for the State Tournament and her team. Rice was captain of both field hockey and lacrosse teams. On the lacrosse field, Rice received All State and All County honors. In 2000, Rice was named Female Athlete of the Year for Greenwich High School.
Rice continued playing field hockey at UConn. A sweeper and team captain at UConn, Rice earned NFHCA All-America status her senior year and was selected for the NFHCA Division I North/South All-Star Game. She was also awarded Big East Defensive Player of the Year and Big East First Team honors. She was a two-time STX/NFHCA Division I All-Mideast Region All-America selection and was named ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American as a senior.
After graduating college, Rice continued to play field hockey through regional training programs, began coaching at the University of Yale and started her teaching career in special education in New Haven
Currently, Rice is the Assistant Principal at Joel Elementary School in Clinton, CT. She lives in Guilford with her husband Jeff, and her son Hank.
